Carly Pearce Shares How Her Rescue Dog June Helped Her Through a Year of Big Changes

Carly Pearce turned heads when she walked the carpet at this year's CMT Awards — and not just because she's making some of the best music in the genre, with hits like the Lee Brice duet "I Hope You're Happy Now" and the '90s country-esque woman-to-woman warning "Next Girl." Her date, a rescue Shih Tzu pup named June Jolene, was also the cutest thing on four legs.

Pearce, the latest artist to be invited (by Dolly Parton, no less) to join the Grand Ole Opry, says her love of dogs comes from her mom, who recently starred with Pearce in an Iams commercial.

"The closest person to me is my mom and our relationship to our pets is so special to our every day life," Pearce tells Wide Open Country. "Having them be a part of something with me was one of my favorite moments I've had.  It certainly didn't feel like work having Johnny, June and my mom there."

In a special video starring Pearce, her mom, and their two dogs — Johnny and June (how cute is that?), Pearce explains how June helped her through a year filled with life changes.

"It was a big summer for me last year with a lot of personal changes, and I was truly crying on my kitchen floor and she came and licked all my tears and it just really made me feel like she was there for me," Pearce says.
