In a shocking turn of events, a two-year-old toddler ended up being inside a car while it was actively being repossessed in Detroit. As reported by WXYZ Detroit, the incident happened on Friday, March 27.
Detroit police have said that the driver was notified that the toddler was still in the car. The moment that he was told, he turned back around, reuniting the toddler with their mother.
The repossession driver was a part of the Bulldog Recovery company, per the outlet. Apparently, the driver couldn't see the toddler in the car because the windows were tinted too dark. As well as this, the toddler was also covered in a blanket.
Jenny Liagre, the owner of another car recovery company in Detroit and the previous president of the Michigan Association of Repossession Agencies, explained that the driver did things by the book.
"He did his due diligence, he did exactly what he was trained to do, he followed protocol to a T," she explained. "He is a seasoned vet." She further explained the process of identifying a car before repossessing it:
"The first thing the agent is going to do is check the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the vehicle to make sure he has the right vehicle, and then he's going to check there was no one inside the vehicle as well... If those windows weren't as dark as they were, he would've noticed."

This Comes After Another Toddler Was Found in an Impound Lot Earlier This Month
Strangely enough, this isn't the first time this has happened. A similar event happened in Detroit earlier this month, but under much more grave circumstances.
As reported by WXYZ Detroit, a 13-month-old toddler was found alive in an impounded vehicle. The child had been left in the car for several days.
The car was parked illegally, so it was towed into an impound lot. But, unfortunately, there was a toddler inside. And, unlike Friday's case, there was no notification to reveal there was a child inside the car.
The toddler was sitting there alone for days until they were discovered. Luckily, they survived. But things could have been so much worse. The father has been charged with child abuse.
These are two very unexpected incidents, but in both cases we are very happy that the children were safe.
