Half-Brother Murdered At Car Dealership Allegedly Over Misunderstanding
The family of the dead victim, 38-year-old Eduardo 'Eddie' Rivero, told the outlet that the suspect was a family member. "One of the victims is related to the shooter," said relative Nicole Garcia. The half-brother, who also ended up injured after the shooting, allegedly confronted Rivero due to a family dispute.
"This unfortunate situation is domestic-related," said Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz from Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, per WSVN. "This was clearly a family argument, a family problem for many years. The subject went there, specifically, to confront his half-brother. We're very grateful that there were not more or additional victims due to this situation."
Bystanders of the sudden gunfight spoke to the outlet about how they reacted to the situation. "We were out there in the yard and I just heard this rapid fire, like, 'Pop, pop, pop, pop,'" said a witness. "At first I thought it was fireworks."
One bystander noticed how many police officers with "all of their armor" on were present. Another heard the shootout and called it "heartbreaking."
Since the incident occurred in an industrial plaza, there were many witnesses to the situation. There were even children there due to the plaza having a cheerleading camp for kids. "A lady that worked there came to us and told us to get to the wall, and that's what we did," said a young girl. The girl's mother was terrified after seeing the children's faces when the gunshots rang out.
After the shooting, first responders rushed all three injured people to the hospital in critical condition. According to Local 10 News, they identified the shooter as Roberto Leyva. Unfortunately, the car dealership owner succumbed to his wounds at the hospital despite undergoing surgery.
On the other hand, the shooter's condition on Thursday night remained critical. The third victim responded to treatment and is now in stable condition.
