Camping World Refuses To Take Down Giant American Flag Despite Massive Fines

Camping World, an RV Dealer, is in trouble with city officials for flying the American flag over its dealership in Greenville, North Carolina. It's legal to fly a flag, of course, but officials have a problem with the massive size and are issuing fines.

According to a report by WLBT, the nationwide RV dealer has been stung with multiple fines over the giant American flag over the premises. The offending flag is allegedly 15 times larger than the allowable flag on non-residential property in the city. The New York Post points out that even the flag pole itself is far larger than usual. In fact, it's almost double the height permitted by local authorities.

The City has since subjected Camping World to daily fines. WLBT explains that the first fine was for $50, and the second jumped to $100. All subsequent penalties are costing the RV dealer $250 a piece. As of Friday last week, the total fines have already reached $1,150. The city has told Camping World that those penalties will continue until they remove the flag.

Interestingly, Camping World recently applied to the Greenville City Council to amend the rules regarding flag ordinance. WITN reports that the council unanimously voted against the application.

The Camping World CEO Defiantly States That The Flag Is Not Coming Down

When asked about the flag, CEO of Camping World, Marcus Lemonis, stated "This one isn't coming down either." According to the New York Post, Lemonis seems unfazed by the fines, saying, "It doesn't matter because Old Glory is not going anywhere."

The CEO also said on social media, "The Flag is not coming down. You can fine me all you want City of Greenville, North Carolina. #NoAmericanFlagIsTooBig."

The outlet also explains that this isn't the first time Lemonis has butted heads with city officials. In a similar incident in August 2024, San Joaquin County officials expressed concerns about the large American flag flying above the dealership. However, Camping World was allowed to keep the flag in this case. When questioned by Fox40 at the time, Lemonis explained his stance. "If we felt like we were putting people in danger or causing any issues with air traffic, which would absolutely not be okay, then I wouldn't do it."

Time will tell if Greenville follows suit. The New York Post also reports that the city has not yet gone to court to collect fines.
