It would be hard for any artist to follow-up a song as powerful and well-received as "Burning House," but that doesn't seem to be an issue for Cam. Her brand new single "Mayday" once again focuses on her incredible voice and ability to portray honest emotion through songwriting.
The video for "Mayday" is features a storyline inspired in part by Amelia Earhart, and shows Cam as she prepares to head to the skies for an epic journey. Her partner doesn't seem to support her decision to leave, but she knows that it's a trip she must take.
Although things go down in flames, it seems to lead to a greater good. It's a metaphor that many who have been in relationships that they know won't last can relate to.
"I had a boyfriend that told me, 'No one's going to love you like I loved you,' and [I thought], 'That's so terrifying,'" she told People of the relationship that inspired the song. "You're so afraid, so you stay in this crappy relationship. You've got to get out."
The cinematic video and the pop-influenced sound could lead "Mayday" to be another crossover success for Cam. Time will tell if her fans embrace the song and its video as much as her breakthrough debut single, but my bet is that you'll be hearing a lot more from her in the months ahead.
