The shooter claimed the lives of four people. Three students aged 5, 8, and 11 years old. But the shooting could have been even more deadly. If not for the heroics of a "community member" who saw the teen enter the building and apprehended him.

Hero Who Neutralized Oregon Shooter Was Father of Two Students

In the latest development, the "community member" was identified as the father of two of the students who attended the school. According to dispatch audio of the incident obtained by the New York Post.

"Looks like the shooter has been neutralized - possibly shot by a father at the school," dispatchers can be heard saying in the audio clip. "Not sure about patients at this time. The police are arriving."

Multiple reports confirmed that a 16-year-old gunman entered the Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday afternoon. Shortly after entering, the gunman began to open fire.

The father of two was identified as Kaylub Giamanco. In a statement to reporters on Thursday, Giamanco's mother, Kenda Freeman, initially sealed his identity. She noted that her son was not seeking recognition.

He is not seeking recognition, but instead wishes to express his gratitude to the first responders, school personnel and community for the outpouring of love and support," she said via PBS.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Oregon Police Chief Tina Kotek thanked the father for his act of heroism.

"To the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life: Your actions carry a heavy emotional burden, and I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well," said Kotek.

It remains unclear if Gianmanco used a gun to apprehend the shooter. Or if he had a license to conceal and carry.
