It happened around 8:30 a.m. A Charlottesville Area Transit bus, bound for Fashion Square Mall, smashed into three cars before crashing into a single-family house. The impact left a gaping wound in the home's facade. Afterward, the bus flashed an ironic message: "Sorry. Not in service."

Albemarle County Police and Fire Rescue raced to the scene. Emergency crews transported the homeowner and the bus driver to UVA Medical Center. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. "No additional injuries have been reported at this time," Charlottesville Area Transit stated in a news release.

Marketing Coordinator Alex Paqualone clarified the situation. "The bus was in service, but the driver was the only person on board," he said. No passengers were present during the wild ride. Carson Foltz, a driver whose car was hit, described the chaos to CBS 19. "It was very scary," she said. "I felt like there was no effort to stop."

Bus Traveling at High Speeds

Foltz estimated the bus roared at "definitely 60 or 70 miles per hour plus." She recounted a witness's account of the lead-up. "It was swerving, driving completely erratic, like up on a sidewalk," she said. Moments later, the bus plowed into her vehicle. "I definitely thought someone was killed for sure," Foltz added, shaken by the ordeal.

Despite the bus's dangerous trajectory, no one suffered serious harm or died. The crash left a trail of destruction—crumpled cars, a shattered home, and rattled nerves. Still, the outcome could have been far worse. The Albemarle County Police Department opened an investigation to determine the cause. Charlottesville Area Transit vowed to assist fully.

Authorities are digging into what sparked the bus's out-of-control rampage. Was it a mechanical failure? Human error? The community awaits answers. For now, residents marvel at the miracle of no fatalities. The wrecked home stands as a stark reminder of the morning's mayhem. That said, the lack of a tragedy should offer some relief amid all that rubble.
