Nicholas Brendon, best known for playing Xander Harris in Buffy The Vampire Slayer, has tragically passed away at 54.
As well as playing as Buffy's sidekick in the iconic show, he also played a supporting role in Criminal Minds. He also starred alongside Lauren Ambrose and Amy Adams in Psycho Beach Party, an entry into the famous Sundance festival.
His family released a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. "We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon," it began. "He passed in his sleep of natural causes. Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years."
The statement then went on to reveal the Buffy star's recent passion for art and painting before his tragic death. His family posted a few pictures on his X page of his paintings. They are undeniably beautiful. They are surrealist and full of expressionist color.
His family described his art as "one of the purest reflections of who he was." And, looking at the pieces, that certainly seems to be the case.
The statement continued to mention his diagnosis in 2023. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect after suffering a heart attack. "While it's no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis."

The 'Buffy' Star Had a Long and Fulfilling Career
Brendon was born in 1971 in Los Angeles. He decided to become an actor in an attempt to fix his stuttering problem.
Brendon was most known for his role as Xander Harris on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The character was a lovable nerd, helping to shift the public perception of the stereotype. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in 2017, he explained how he helped change the public perception of the stereotype.
"I actually don't have a lot of crazy fan interactions. It's just a bunch of dudes who say, 'Man, you got me laid a lot in high school. You made it cool to be a nerd and awkward and funny,'" he said. "I wonder how many babies are out there because Xander got people laid."
May Nicholas Brendon rest in peace. What a light he was.
