"There are people who like him and there are people who don't," Peter said. "It was more nefarious."

Peter then continued by discussing the ongoing police investigation in Costa Rica, where his brother's murder took place.

"Law enforcement is not letting anything out," Peter continued. "Costa Rica isn't like it was 15 years ago. There's a lot of murder, a lot of thievery."

Kurt was well known in Costa Rica. He'd spent decades running a humble hotel in Puerto Viejo. He arrived in the area during the 1980s, initially impressing as an elite surfer, earning himself the nickname of "The King."

"The town where the killing occurred is usually considered safe, and the incident sent shockwaves through the community," The New York Post reported.

Kurt wasn't the only talented surfer in his family. His father, Gene, and his mother, Betty were both high level surfers during their heydays, making names for themselves during the 50s and 60s.
