Wilhoite, 38, who just completed his second season with the Broncos, allegedly struck a police officer in the face with a left hook. He was then reportedly tased as he drove away from the airport. The altercation took place around 2 p.m. when Wilhoite left his 2021 Ford Bronco unattended outside the arrival terminal, per documents obtained by The Denver Post.

The officer reportedly informed Wilhoite that he could not leave his truck in the drop-off lane. That led to an exchange of hostile words. Wilhoite allegedly told the officer to "Shut the f-k up." He repeated the insult when the officer made the request again. The situation escalated when Wilhoite allegedly bumped the officer with his chest in an "aggressive manner." That prompted the officer to push back.

At that point, Wilhoite allegedly punched the officer in the face, causing the officer to fall to the ground. Wilhoite then returned to his vehicle, and as he opened the door, the officer deployed a taser, striking Wilhoite in the left hip and side. Despite being tased, Wilhoite was able to drive away from the scene.

The officer sustained visible injuries to his knees. He also reported moderate pain in his jaw.

Wilhoite appeared in court on Monday, where his bond was set at $5,000. Magistrate Arnie Beckman expressed concern about how a routine airport interaction escalated into an alleged assault. "That a routine, everyday encounter turned violent is concerning to the court," Beckman said.

The Broncos issued a statement acknowledging the news involving Wilhoite and assured they are gathering more details. "We are aware of a situation involving Michael Wilhoite that occurred Sunday," the team said in a statement.

Wilhoite played six seasons in the NFL. He spent five years with the San Francisco 49ers after entering the league as an undrafted free agent from Division II Washburn. His final season was with the Seattle Seahawks. Wilhoite transitioned into coaching in 2019 with the New Orleans Saints before joining the Broncos.
