What Broccoli is Affected?
The specific broccoli that may be contaminated is Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC of Idaho. The recall notice explained that their brand of broccoli sprouts were sold to stores in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
However, the FDA have expressed concerns that the product may have been taken to other states too. This is because cases of Salmonella have been found in Utah.
They explained that the products are identifiable by their plastic bags or plastic clam shell containers. They have written on them, "EVERGREEN FRESH SPROUTS LLC. BROCCOLI SPROUTS".
The affected products have expiration dates of: 9/7; 9/9; 9/11; 9/14; and 9/16.
The FDA Released an Update About the Outbreak
The FDA updated consumers in collaboration with the CDC about what was happening. "Based on epidemiological information collected by CDC and state partners," they wrote, "a total of 22 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from four states".
The strain of Salmonella they are referring to is Salmonella Bovismorbificans.
They continued, "Illnesses started on dates ranging from July 7, 2026, to August 26, 2026. Of the 19 people interviewed, all 19 (100%) reported eating sprouts and 17 (89%) reported specifically eating broccoli sprouts. There have been two hospitalizations and no deaths."
They went on to explain that, in conjunction with "state partners", they traced the illnesses to Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC-grown broccoli sprouts. "Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, LLC initiated a recall of broccoli sprouts [on September 4] based o na positive Salmonella result from a broccoli sprouts sample collected and analyzed by Montana state officials."
