Watch: Brazen Bear Caught Stealing From a U-Haul on Camera

The bear was caught opening the U-Haul's door, climbing in, stealing a bag and making off into nearby woodland.

If you're out and about in North Carolina, it might be worth double-checking you've locked your car doors when leaving your vehicle. That's especially true if you have any form of food inside. A recent onlooker caught a bear breaking into a parked U-Haul van before jetting off with a bag in its mouth.

The video has since been posted to social media.

Do we know what was in the bag? No, no, we don't.

Can we assume the bear smelled food and decided to take advantage of the situation? Yes, yes, we can.

What's most impressive is that the bear managed to open the van's door, climb into the van, find what it was looking for, and saunter off back into the wilderness. It didn't rush. Nor did it seem to be bothered by its surroundings.

Unfortunately, the bear didn't have the manners to close the van door behind itself. Thankfully, it doesn't look like it was raining. Otherwise, the driver would have been forced to endure a wet seat while also being without their lunch for the day.

Let's be honest, though, that was one smart bear. It figured out the door handle. The bear also knew where the food was and didn't cause any damage while on its hunter-gatherer mission. Hopefully, whatever it found isn't toxic to bears; otherwise, that would be a sad twist to the story.

Social Media Users React to the Bear Video

As you would expect, the video of the bear was well-received by social media users. We all love a good animal video, especially when they're doing something we wouldn't ordinarily expect.

"I cannot believe these bears. What a little f-k! They can open doors," one user joked in the comments section. "They can open CAR doors, they know what the bag is and can see what's in it, they know how to get to the juicy snacks inside, and they shut the door after them sometimes, I've seen it."

Another user was impressed by how easily the bear managed to navigate the door in the first place.

"Causally opened the door, not broken into certain states. If you leave your door unlocked, it's not a crime, it's a civil matter, so the bare-handed bear got a free meal," they wrote.

There are no details as to whether the bear was seen in the area after the incident, or whether the food it found was 'just right.'
