The disturbance began mid-flight when a couple, traveling with two young children, began vocally expressing their dissatisfaction with the pace of other passengers exiting the aircraft. According to reports, including the New York Post, the couple loudly criticized the speed of fellow passengers and even insulted them, calling them "garbage people." Their disruptive behavior escalated as they exited the plane and entered the jet bridge. The couple reportedly called passengers "too slow" and accused others of deliberately bumping into them.
The tension boiled over when the couple began arguing with a flight attendant, who had presumably tried to manage the situation. As the disagreement intensified, a nearby passenger intervened, shouting at the couple and attempting to strike the man. The altercation continued as the couple attempted to leave the scene, reportedly shoving the flight attendant aside in their haste to exit. Other passengers became involved, further exacerbating the situation.

She declared, "I'll put my bag wherever I want. And no one is allowed to touch it." She reportedly lashed out physically at the flight attendant, prompting other crew members to intervene.
The couple's behavior during the flight drew complaints from other passengers, with the man allegedly referring to fellow travelers as "trash people." These interactions were reportedly tense throughout the flight, setting the stage for the confrontation that followed after landing.
Videos of the incident show the couple's altercation with fellow passengers and flight crew. In the footage, the situation appears to spiral out of control, as the couple and other passengers engage in heated arguments. One passenger attempted to punch the man, although he manages to dodge the blow.
In response to the disturbance, Hong Kong Airlines issued a statement. They confirmed that "appropriate action had been taken" against the passengers involved. The airline emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all passengers and crew members.
"Hong Kong Airlines takes flight safety and our passengers' traveling experience very seriously," the airline's statement read. "We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our crew and passengers and have a zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptive behavior or breaches of the Aviation Security Ordinance."
