Brandon Rhyder Talks Family Life on the Road, Stories Behind Biggest Hits

The Wide Open Country Podcast is back in action. We will have new episodes rolling out every Thursday. Check in each week to hear new conversations and performances with emerging and legacy country artists from all across the world of country music. We're kicking off this season with Brandon Rhyder, a veteran of the Texas country music scene.

Rhyder recently released his ninth album, Brandon Rhyder (July 14). After several years on the road, checking off career milestone after milestone, Rhyder has arrived at a contemplative time in his life. Family is his biggest priority. Shows include time with his kids on stage. The annual dates have slide down from 200-plus to a hundred or so. His new album has a lot to do with this stage of life, a place Rhyder seems comfortable and happy.

During our conversation, he shared some great stories about his musical past. Among them, the serendipitous events that led to his career in music, the background of his popular Live at Billy Bob's record, and how he wrote his most famous song, "Freeze Frame Time."

Rhyder's current single is "They Need Each Other," which he co-wrote with Lori McKenna ("Humble & Kind"). You can find his album wherever you stream or download music. And you can catch his current list of tour dates here.  Below, you can watch Rhyder perform a couple of new songs from the record.
