Per a report by the New York Post, a crash occurred on Saturday afternoon involving two vehicles and a family walking home from a Synagogue. Miriam Yarimi, 32, was allegedly driving double the speed limit on a suspended license when her vehicle smashed into an Uber Toyota Camry. Her Audi then collided with a family of four, killing a mother and two children.
Authorities confirmed that Natasha Saada, 35, and her two daughters, Diana, 7, and Debra, 5, died in the accident. Saada's son, Phillip, 4, is now in critical condition in hospital.
According to the Brooklyn Eagle, Yarimi sped through a red light when she hit the Toyota. Both drivers suffered minor injuries, and emergency services had to extract Yarimi from her vehicle as it flipped over.
The Young Boy Remains In Critical Condition In Hospital
Per an updated report by the New York Post, doctors are treating Philip at the Maimonides Medical Center. Yesterday, officials revealed that he has had a kidney removed. City Comptroller Brad Lander visited the family. They told him, "He's still in critical condition. He lost one kidney, but they are hopeful about his prognosis."
The outlet also explains that the Toyota had passengers inside: a mom and her three children. Everyone inside the Uber was injured but survived the crash.
The incident has also drawn the ire of the local community and lawmakers who are now calling for a change in legislation. Per a report by Fox 5, there is a push to install safety devices on the vehicles of repeat speeding drivers to limit their speed. These devices already exist and are used on vehicle owners with drunk driving charges.
Fox 5 explains that Yarimi has racked up over 90 traffic violations since 2023. Most are for speeding. Per the New York Post, authorities have charged Yarimi with three counts of second-degree manslaughter and negligent homicide. She also faces four charges of second-degree assault for the family hurt inside the Toyota.
