Jarrell Miller suffered a horrifying hair malfunction during his win over Kingsley Ibeh on Saturday night. During the fight, as Ibeh landed a straight punch to Miller's forehead, his toupee came loose. Ultimately, the hairpiece came off, leading Miller to throw it into the crowd.
Boxing often produces the unexpected. Knockouts are plucked from the air. Underdogs have their day. And occasionally, there's a disagreement after the final bell. But getting hit so hard that your hair falls off? That must be one for the record books.
After the fight, Miller detailed the wild reason why he was wearing a hairpiece in the first place, and it was his mom who caught the blame.
"I get to my mama's house and she has some shampoo bottles on the table," Miller said, via The Daily Mail. "I shampooed, it was like ammonium bleach. I literally lost my hair like two days ago. So I called my manager (and said), "Get me one of those manes", and I slapped that on real quick... I'm a comedian, I make fun of myself."
He might need some additional hair glue next time.
They say that comebacks should be memorable, and that's precisely what Miller accomplished on Saturday night. His win over Ibeh came in his first fight since losing to Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2024.
A fun fact: Ruiz famously defeated Anthony Joshua after being a late replacement for his first fight on American soil. The boxer Ruiz replaced? None other than Mr. Toupee himself, Jarrell Miller. That win saw Ruiz earn the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles.
With Miller's win over Ibeh, he's now taken his career record to 27 wins, 1 loss and two draws. A whopping 22 of his wins have come by way of knockout.
Hopefully, Miller's hair will eventually grow back, and he can avoid the embarrassment of having another hair malfunction.
Otherwise, it might be better for him to come out bald at his next fight. At least then, there's no risk of another viral moment.
