According to Fox News, a truck drove into a crowd enjoying the New Year's celebrations. The attacker injured 30 people, and what we thought were 10 deaths turned out to be 15. The 42-year-old driver, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, proceeded to leave the vehicle and open fire.

Updated Death Count And Sugar Bowl Postponement

New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell, as WGNO reported, called the truck attack on Bourbon Street "a terrorist act." Superintendent of the NOPD (New Orleans Police Department) Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed during the same press conference that it was not accidental.

In the aftermath of this disaster, Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced that they postponed the Georgia vs. Notre Dame game. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, New Year's Day, but they rescheduled it to Thursday.

They planned to play the game at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. With the tragedy having occurred too close by and just around 3:15 AM early Wednesday morning, the game postponement isn't surprising.

The Sugar Bowl is an annual American college football bowl game they annually play in New Orleans on New Year's Day. The University of Notre Dame released a statement on social media in response to the terrible incident.

The UGA (Univerity of Georgia) also wrote a statement online from President Jere W. Morehead. Unfortunately, the attack affected one of its students. "At this point, we have learned that a University of Georgia student was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment," he mentioned.

The thoughtful statement ended with the President explaining how the "University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event."

The Allstate Sugar Bowl's X page also confirmed that they postponed the game until tomorrow. "We will communicate further details as they become available," it wrote.

More information on this catastrophe may come to light as the investigations continue. Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that the FBI is now looking into this terrorist attack, according to ABC News.
