Blue Bell lovers will get a special treat in their grocery stores this holiday season.
The beloved dairy company surprised consumers by releasing half-gallon containers of their Peppermint flavored ice cream this week. The holiday favorite, packaged in a blue-green carton, features pieces of real peppermint candy swirled throughout. The flavor was first released in 1975 and has been released in limited quantities each year during the holiday season.
There are now seven flavors of Blue Bell ice cream readily available to consumers in select cities. Buttered Pecan, Cookies ‘n Cream, Dutch Chocolate, Homemade Vanilla, Pistachio Almond and The Great Divide are once again available in stores in parts of Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma.
The production of Blue Bell dairy products was halted earlier this year after a listeria outbreak was discovered in their plants. Three people died and seven others were sickened due to the bacteria found in their products.
The rerelease of Blue Bell products has begun in phases over the past few months. The company says they will begin shipping their products to stores in Louisiana and Mississippi. Select stores in Tennessee and Arkansas will also begin receiving Blue Bell items in January 2016.
