Blake Shelton has filed a lawsuit against In Touch Weekly over a cover story that falsely claimed he was battling alcoholism.
The article, which was printed last month, also stated that he was headed to rehab for his issues with alcohol. According to the tabloid, this was the primary cause of his divorce from Miranda Lambert earlier in the year.
The Associated Press reports that Shelton filed a suit against the magazine with the Los Angeles County Superior Court for over $1 million in damages. The lawsuit states that In Touch has repeatedly reported false information about Shelton, and have ignored previous requests from the country star to retract their stories.
"Blake Shelton has had enough," the lawsuit states. "Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab." Shelton and his representatives are also requesting an injunction against the periodical, making it illegal for them to reprint the allegedly false information.
According to the suit, "Mr. Shelton has not hit rock bottom." The 39-year-old is currently busy filming the current season of The Voice in Los Angeles and is working on an upcoming greatest hits album. It's unclear how long it will take for this suit to be settled, but I doubt Shelton will be backing down any time soon.
