Blake Shelton is set to release his twelfth studio album, If I'm Honest, on May 20.
Over the past few months, the country star has been sharing updates from the studio as he completed his new project. In multiple interviews, he explained that he intended to directly address the emotional aftermath of his highly-publicized divorce from Miranda Lambert. His new relationship with The Voice co-star Gwen Stefani will also be openly addressed in his new music.
"This is the most excited I've been about a new album since the release of my second record," Shelton said in a press release.
The news comes just a day after the release of his new single, "Came Here to Forget," which talks about a blossoming love between two people who are still licking their wounds from badly-ended relationships. Sound familiar?
"I've had a lot of music over the years, but I don't think I've ever had a song before that's such a direct look into my life," he said of his latest track.
Although the song's overindulgent pop-country production will likely appeal to Shelton's current fanbase, it dives too far into uncomfortable cliches to really feel authentic. You can judge for yourself by taking a listen to the track here.
