Billy Joel Gives Health Update

"I know people are worried about me because they read that I have a brain disorder, which sounds a lot worse than it actually is," Joel said. "I'm OK. My balance isn't that good. Lost a little bit of my hearing, but that may have to do with my age, too, and the rock-and-roll life and the loud volume probably didn't help.

"But I'm fine. I want people to not have to worry about me. I'm OK. And I appreciate your call."

His symptoms are caused by cerebrospinal fluid building up inside of his skull. That presses on his brain and causes pressure. Since then, Joel hasn't been performing as regularly. However, he did turn out for the 30th anniversary of a Billy Joel cover band. He also played a couple of songs with the group as part of the celebration.

That was back in January.

The update comes after Joel and his team shared that he was needing to step away from music.

"This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance," read a statement to his official social media account. "Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health."

He also said at the time, "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding."
