Bill Carter Talks Songwriter Life, Playing Merle Haggard Tunes with Keith Richards

Bill Carter is one of those songwriters who other songwriters go to for wisdom. After more than 40 years, he's still driven to craft songs that last, songs that have "penetrating magic in the imagination."

His songs have recorded been recorded by a number of music icons, including Stevie Ray Vaughan ("Crossfire"), John Mayall, Waylon Jennings ("Jacksboro Highway") The Fabulous Thunderbirds ("Why Get Up?").

Now, after years of requests from fans, Carter has finally recorded acoustic versions of those signature tracks and others on his new self-titled album out today (Oct. 6).

On this episode of podcast, Carter and I talk about his unique approach to songwriting and his thoughts on the music of today.
