Bill Belichick has branched out into coaching baseball, well, at least for one day. The New England Patriots legend and current UNC head coach made a shock cameo as the head coach for the Savannah Bananas. His appearance occurred during a recent exhibition game, which was played at the Tar Heels' Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Belichick, who was coaching on home soil, received a huge cheer from the crowd when stepping onto the field. He quickly shook hands with some of the players. From there, he got in on the Savannah Bananas schtick when he got into a pretend argument following a double-play call at first base.
The humorous side of Belichick continued to be one show throughout the game. He even argued with the umpire, throwing a yellow flag challenge. Of course, Belichick won, and the Bananas runner was ruled safe just moments later.
Belichick managed to secure victory in his lone game as a baseball coach. The bananas won 6-5 against the Tailgaters. So, it's fair to say that Belichick will ultimately retire as an undefeated coach in terms of baseball.
Does that make him a two-sport legend?
Probably not. Still, it was great to see the 73-year-old embracing the moment and having fun now.
Bill Belichick Was Snubbed for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame
Belichick guided the Patriots to six Super Bowls, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East titles in 24 years. He's one of the most successful head coaches in the history of the NFL.
So, you can imagine the surprise when he was snubbed for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In January 2026, Belichick was informed that he didn't receive the 40 of 50 votes he needed to secure his place in the Hall of Fame. When asked about his exclusion, the veteran head coach reiterated that his focus was on coaching UNC, rather than receiving recognition for his stellar coaching career.
"I'm focused on coaching this team and focused on, you know, getting Carolina football to highest level I can," Belichick said. "I focus on what I can do, and things that are out of my control, I don't worry about."
Sooner or later, Belichick's name will be added to the Hall of Fame. Until then, he can continue developing the UNC program and can always fall back on coaching the Bananas if they're ever back in town. Who knows, maybe he can go 2-0.
