The incident unfolded during the Saarland Trofeo Juniors event on Sunday, as more than 100 cyclists competed in one of the country's premier youth races.

As the race sped past spectators, the woman slowly moved her mobility scooter into the roadway, triggering a chain reaction that sent several riders crashing to the ground.

The shocking collision was captured on video by a stunned spectator and quickly spread across social media.

Footage shows the woman gradually edging her scooter out from a crowd and into the path of the approaching cyclists.

One rider managed to avoid her at the last moment. However, the cyclist directly behind was unable to react in time.

The rider slammed into the side of the scooter and was launched through the air before crashing heavily onto the road.

Several other cyclists were unable to avoid the fallen rider, resulting in a pile-up that left multiple competitors sprawled across the course.

The dramatic footage highlights the speed at which the peloton was traveling when the incident occurred.

According to The Telegraph, all of the cyclists involved escaped serious injury despite the frightening nature of the crash.

Cyclists React to Viral Incident

Dutch cyclist Paul Vriesman, who was the first rider involved in the collision, later addressed the incident on social media.

He said that was that he was involved in "a very nasty looking crash" but "got away with it relatively well."

"Lost for words on how something like this can happen," he added. "So much hard work and yet another setback."

Cycling commentator Los Brolin also weighed in on the incident. This was after the video gained widespread attention online, amassing nearly 600,000 views on X alone.

"Even a small step onto the road can have serious consequences at these speeds. This was not even the first incident of this kind during the race. Junior racing is already dangerous enough without spectators making it even more dangerous," he wrote on social media.

Despite the disruption, the race continued, with Norway's Sindre Orholm-Lønseth claiming victory.

Dutch rider Splinter van't Hoff finished second, while Germany's Elias Wändel completed the podium in third place.
