Biggest Blunder: Woman Accidentally Donates Jacket With $2.5 Million Lotto Ticket Inside

Donating clothes to a chosen charity is a great way to clear out space, and also give back a little. But it's always important to check the pockets before you do it. You don't want to go donating more than you originally intended.

A woman in Pensalvania is claiming that she accidentally put the winning lotto ticket in her jacket pocket and then donated it. Without the ticket she has no claim to the prize. The ticket is worth $2.5 million. How she was able to casually leave that in there is beyond understanding.

According to 76-year-old Mildred Simoneriluto, she knew she had won. Rather than pin the ticket to the fridge or somewhere else, she left the winning lotto ticket in the jacket. Speaking to WTAE, she said, "I remember saying: 'If I put it here, I won't forget it." But, she did.

Now, the winning lotto ticket is out there. It is out for donation and could be anywhere. The lucky person who finds it is entitled to her winnings, too.

Nothing She Can Do To Retrieve Lotto Ticket

There is nothing the elderly lady can do about the unclaimed prize left in the jacket pocket. She returned to the store she bought it from, but without the ticket, there is no claim to the $2.5 million. "I went back to Stop N' Save maybe a hundred times," she lamented. "And they said there was nothing they could do."

So, now, somewhere out there, there is a lotto ticket with winning numbers floating around. However, I suspect it has either been washed beyond recognition or simply thrown out in the donation process. Keeping something that valuable in a pocket is never a great idea.

The lotto ticket loser is devastated. "What else can I do? Cry out loud and hope that something will happen," she said. She is beyond disappointed about her luck, saying, "I was stupefied. There are no words for it, there's no expression. How can I get it back?"

In the future, if you happen to be the lucky winner of a multimillion prize, make sure to put it somewhere safe.
