Beloved Teacher's Fiancée's Body Is Found In A Lake
Daily Mail shares that Jones and his fiancée, Jocelyn Wilson, set out for a day on the lake on February 8. The pair boarded their small fishing boat and set off for a day full of adventure. Investigators share that Jones was last seen at a Burger King before getting onto the boat around 3:30 pm.
Two hours later, Jone's boat was sighted driving in circles in the lake. However, Jones and Wilson were not on board. Concerned witnesses who saw the unmanned boat reported it to local police. After police recovered the boat they confirmed that no one was on board. However, Jones's wallet was still on the fishing boat.
Additionally, Daily Mail shares that "Authorities also found life jackets, snacks, and cake." The couple had gone out to celebrate Jones' 50th birthday and it seems they didn't get the chance to finish celebrating. Authorities reported that the boat traveled at least seven miles from the point at which the couple set sail.
One day after the couple went missing, Ms. Wilson's body was discovered. Authorities shared that she was found with air in her lungs and her cellphone in her hand.
Volunteers Continue To Search For Beloved Teacher Who Is Missing
Despite finding Wilson's body, Jones was still missing. He was a science teacher and coach at Westminster Schools and was loved by many. Several members of the community came together to help with the search efforts.
There are many clues in this mysterious case, but so far nothing is adding up. Jones' shoes were found near his fiancée's body that was found in the lake. Additionally, Daily Mail shared that his "Phone last pinged in the area around 5:06 pm, just before their boat was found." However, despite those two finds, the beloved teacher is still missing.
Sheriff Sills told reporters, "The circumstances in this case indicate it's not just a simple drowning." Although the search continues, divers have been instructed to wait until the search area has been narrowed down before they enter the water.
While the circumstances around the case seem suspicious, Sheriff Sills admits that it is possible that the boat just crashed. While the boat didn't have extensive damage, he admitted that "it wasn't equipped to handle the waters of Lake Oconee."
Investigators have struggled to narrow down the search, but that has done nothing to deter the public. One of Jones' previous students said, "He was the type of person that if he ever found out that any of us were missing, he would have been the first one out here to look for us." Now, it seems that the community is returning the favor as many gather to search for the beloved teacher who has been missing now for 12 days.
