Beloved teacher and soccer coach, Adrian Gilmore, suddenly suffered an unspecified medical emergency on Tuesday, April 22. Several students witnessed the traumatizing event. Two days later, on Thursday, April 24, Gilmore died after collapsing on campus.

According to News 12 Long Island, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Suffolk County police officers arrived at Albert G. Prodell Middle School at around 2:55 p.m. They had received reports of a staff member, Gilmore, who had suffered a "medical emergency" in front of students. This report was also shared with parents by district officials on Tuesday.
As per the outlet, Rocky Point EMS rushed Gilmore to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson. Unfortunately, two days later, Adrian Gilmore died at the hospital. No details surrounding her "medical emergency" or her death were shared by authorities.
Remembering Adrian Gilmore
Adrian Gilmore was not only a beloved sixth-grade teacher at the middle school, but she was also a soccer coach, honored with multiple awards, including the 2019 Regional High School Coach of the Year, as per Riverhead News-Review.
In a letter shared with the community, Shoreham-Wading River Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole described Gilmore as "not only a dedicated and passionate educator, but an outstanding coach, mentor, and source of inspiration to many generations of SWR colleagues, families and students."
"For 20 years, Adrian served as a dedicated educator, most recently teaching sixth grade with unwavering commitment and care," Poole wrote in the letter. "More than her impressive achievements, Adrian will be remembered as a mentor for other coaches and teachers, a passionate advocate for children and a trusted colleague whose impact reached far beyond school walls."
A GoFundMe was set up to support Gilmore's husband and her children.
"Adrian wasn't just a teacher in the classroom or a coach on the field; she was a mentor, a listener, and a light in so many lives," the GoFundMe read. "She believed in people, lifted them up, and encouraged them to be their best. At home, she was the heart of her family; faithful, selfless, and strong. Her absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her."
