"I'm just jumping on here to give you guys a brief update as to what's going on with my wonderful health situation,"
he said in a video posted to his Facebook page. "So, the last time I gave you guys an update, pretty much the doctors told me we are going to be five more rounds of chemo and three stem cell transplants and the whole nine."A couple weeks ago, I got some scans, and those scans showed significant progress from April," he continued. "So, we are thrilled about that. There's still cancer left, but the doctors feel pretty good about moving forward with surgery. So, in about two weeks, I'm going to have a massive 12, 13-hour operation. They are going to cut open my whole abdomen and pretty much try to remove everything that's left."
Following the surgery, it will take several months for the rock guitarist to heal.
Beloved Rock Guitarist Facing 13-Hour Operation
"Fingers crossed, this is the final step in what has been a very exciting journey for me this year," he continued. "So, I just wanted to update you guys. I'm doing good. I feel as good as one can given these circumstances, and most of all I'm just antsy to get back out and not only live my life, but do the things I've wanted to do this year and haven't been able to because of my medical (expletive)."
The rock guitarist first announced his cancer diagnosis back in January.
"The truth is, I haven't felt right physically for quite a few years," he wrote. "I always had great excuses for a lot of the problems I was experiencing such as my football career which can take a toll on the human body, my music career which can be both mentally and physically demanding, my rigorous training lifestyle that I've continued to lead in my post football life to stay in shape and healthy, or simply the growing pains that came as a result of getting older. It became difficult to even focus on anything except the pain but I come from a world where you're taught to suppress that and find a way to remain strong."
He continued, "So I did. I pushed through every day for years. I wouldn't. And couldn't be stopped from relentlessly chasing my goals by anything or anyone, not even my own self. I became comfortable putting my goals own wellbeing on the back burner to service the greater goal, whatever that may have been at the time, and honestly that's just my DNA, 100% or nothing!"
