Peggy King, a beloved Hollywood singer and actress, has died at the age of 96. As reported by Variety, she tragically passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
As reported by the Express, her longtime agent and friend, Alan Eicher confirmed her passing. He wrote in a post on social media, "Sad to report that wonderful singer Peggy King has died today at 96 after a long illness. She had a long, colorful career and was nicknamed 'Pretty perky Peggy King' on 'The George Gobel Show'."
The beloved Hollywood singer got her start in Cleveland, recording for radio stations and even performing at the Cleveland Hotel Nightclub. It was the latter that ended up landing her a contract to tour nationally alongside iconic big bands from the likes of Charlie Spivak and Ray Anthony.
She was most well known for her stardom as a result of a contract with MGM in 1952, however. She was also nominated for an Emmy during her time with the label.
The nickname that stuck with her, and that Eicher especially remembered her for, came from the George Gobel Show. She was also a pioneer of the new television scene, being a regular on the show for three years, where the show's namesake gave her that name.
