"We'll miss his warmth, his humor, and his friendship," the post also added. "Our hearts are with Jimmy's family and loved ones. Jimmy Carter's contributions to WSM, country music, and the Nashville media community will not be forgotten."

Carter was a familiar presence throughout Nashville's entertainment industry, spending more than five decades covering country music, Hollywood and the celebrities who helped shape both worlds. He was particularly well-known for his work as an entertainment reporter at WSMV Channel 4, where he spent a combined 21 years interviewing stars and covering red carpets, award shows and major industry events.

Throughout his career, Carter interviewed countless celebrities, including Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone and Kevin Costner.

"We received the news today that my grandfather, Jimmy Carter, passed in his sleep," Kira Sparks wrote on Facebook. "He was someone who would drop everything on a dime to be there for his family. It never mattered what the situation was, if you needed him, he was there like Superman. He hated seeing any of us cry and always said that the worst thing you can do is focus on what makes you sad, so instead of that, I'm going to focus on all our memories."
