Relative Gives Update on Beauty Queen Learning To Walk Again After Life-Changing Wreck

Kiara Bowling suffered severe injuries when she was allegedly hit by a car operated by two youngsters. She is recovering slowly.

Kiara Bowling never could have imagined the consequences when she went for a walk with a friend's dog in Oakland, California, on August 6. The 31-year-old woman was allegedly hit from behind. What struck her was a vehicle allegedly driven by two young brothers. They are reportedly 4 and 7 years old. Per People, Bowling does not recall anything about the horrific incident. She is in the process of working on her walking skills and slowly recovering. To what extent Bowling will be able to get back to normally functioning again is uncertain at this time.

Her aunt, Karon Markham, gave an update on Bowling's condition to the outlet. "She is now able to eat solid foods. She has learned to swallow. She's working on a puzzle, and she's learning to color. She has a long way to go."

Bowling Sustained Numerous Injuries

Her injuries, according to Karon Markham, include a traumatic brain injury, "broken ribs, a facial fracture, and memory loss." Prior to the accident, Kiara Bowling was Miss California Regency International 2026. She also finished "a virtual pre-law program at Harvard University." Now, her promising life has been completely upended in an instant.

Medical personnel are being cautious and guarded about Kiara'Bowling's prognosis. Per the outlet, "Doctors have told the family that it is unclear whether Bowling will ever be able to fully function on her own...."

She is still figuring out what actually happened to her. Markham shared, "She knows the incident from people communicating about it. She told me, 'Two children stole my car and they hit me with my own car,' and then 15 minutes later, she said, 'Two children stole their parents' car and they hit me with their car.'"

How the Accident Allegedly Took Place

Markham said that investigators told her that the pair of young siblings allegedly grabbed their parents' car keys while they slept. They then climbed out through a window and traveled away in the car. Karon Markham still wonders about the particulars of the incident that hurt her niece so badly.

"There's pieces of the puzzle that just don't fit," she declared.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Kiara Bowling by Karon Markham. As of Friday, September 11, it raised $121,251. The goal is $140,000.
