Alexandra Paul is best known for her work on the 1990s syndicated television series Baywatch. But over the weekend, she attempted a daring rescue of her own.

On Sunday, March 15, the actress and 60 other activists allegedly tried to free beagles from a controversial breeding facility in Wisconsin. However, they were stopped by authorities during the attempt.

What Happened to the "Baywatch" Star?

As reported by the New York Post, the 62-year-old, who played Lieutenant Stephanie Holden on Baywatch, allegedly took part in a caught-on-camera animal rights sting.

She and 20 other animal rights protesters were then arrested for trespassing at Ridglan Farms. The breeding facility in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, is located about 30 miles west of Madison.

She and other activists from the Coalition to Save Ridglan Dogs were filmed breaking into the facility. They all wore white protective suits and were holding onto beagles as they walked out.

Following the break-in, the activist group reported that 31 dogs were rescued. Authorities later returned eight of them to the facility.

"Some of the beagles taken were recovered and returned to Ridglan Farms, but several beagles remain unaccounted for," said Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. "Two vehicles, along with burglary tools and other evidence, were seized at the scene."

This Isn't Paul's First Run-In With the Law

Paul, who was on Baywatch from 1992 through 1997, has been in trouble with the law several times in recent years.

Her involvement in animal rights led to a misdemeanor theft charge in 2021. She rescued two chickens from a Foster Farms truck in California. She was later found not guilty.

Ridglan Farms has been the focus of several animal rights groups. It has been reported that the facility breeds beagles that are used in scientific research.

"The Dane County Sheriff's Office understands how deeply people feel for the beagles at Ridglan Farms, and we respect their right to express that passion through peaceful protests," said Sheriff Barrett.

He added, "Our role is to keep everyone safe and to respond when unlawful activity takes place. We encourage anyone with concerns about animal welfare or research practices to engage through lawful and constructive avenues."
