Charvet allegedly hit the animal while driving on April 16. According to police, they believe the Baywatch star may have accidentally hit the animal.
"It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off leash and ran into the roadway," the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Department told People. "[Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them."
Meanwhile, a rep for the Baywatch alum released a statement. They said that Charvet "is an animal lover and responsible dog owner who would never intentionally harm an animal." They also said, "His thoughts are with the family who lost their dog."

The owner claims the dogs were on leashes. But the rep disagreed with this account.
"At approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning, while driving through his neighborhood in low-light conditions, he encountered a neighbor walking three dogs off leash in the middle of the street," his rep claimed. "He slowed his vehicle and moved to the side to pass safely. As he did so, one of the dogs moved under the vehicle. He immediately stopped, called 911, and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. He fully cooperated with the investigation and made himself available for any further help."
The dog's owner, Vera Errico, intitially claimed she was walking her three dogs on leashes. That's when the actor struck one of the dogs with his pickup truck. At the time, she claimed it was a hit and run incident. However, authorities do not consider this to be a hit and run.
The actor himself called the police following the incident. Police are investigating the issue further. Charvet starred as Matt Brody on Baywatch.
Previously, he weighed in on his career, saying, "I have to say that what I've experienced with my kids and what I've experienced in the last 17 years has definitely made me a better man, has made me understand what it is to have real relationships and be able to treat people kindly and have more of a humble approach in life."
