Philadelphia fans of Echo and the Bunnymen didn't have to wait very long to see the new wave band perform after their June 7 show was delayed.

A car accident was the reason for the postponement. The "Lips Like Sugar" group's frontman, Ian McCulloch, was traveling to the show from Washington, D.C., when the incident occurred.

Was the Echo and the Bunnymen Singer Injured?

According to a statement posted on its social media accounts, the 67-year-old McCulloch required medical treatment.

"Thankfully, the injuries sustained are not believed to be serious," it read. "However, as you can appreciate, he has been left understandably shaken by the incident. As a precautionary measure, Ian is undergoing further medical assessment, including scans and X-rays."

The band said it was a "difficult decision" to postpone the show. However, instead of months, fans only had to wait a couple of days. Echo and the Bunnymen will perform at The Fillmore Philadelphia tonight, June 9

"Postponing a show is always a last resort," the statement read. "All original tickets will remain valid for the new date. If you are unable to attend, please contact your original point of purchase for information regarding available options."

Speaking of Cancellations...

Obviously, Echo and the Bunnymen isn't the first band to cancel a show. However, for another new wave artist, Morrissey, it's probably more of a surprise to fans when one of his shows actually does go on.

Back in November, the singer canceled his entire South American tour due to "extreme exhaustion". Then, at the beginning of 2026, he canceled two shows in California. The reason? He was having "an adverse reaction" to his medication.

At the time, Morrissey had reportedly canceled 49 of his last 100 shows.

Then, in March, the singer canceled a show in Valencia, Spain. Why? The noise in his hotel room caused intense "sleep deprivation," which he called an "indescribable hell" that put him in a "catatonic state." He claimed it would take him "one year to recover."

We commend Echo and the Bunnymen for doing its best to make sure the show goes on.
