When award-winning photographer and videographer Maciej Winiarczyk filmed this video, he intended to capture a time-lapse of the Milky Way's motion during earth's rotation. What he got instead was otherworldly footage that captured a rare sighting: an alluring Aurora Borealis passing over the Milky Way.
Winiarczyk is no alien to gathering twilight footage. The night sky guru filmed the remarkable display while visiting Scotland, and had no idea that he would encounter both sights at once.
In the video above, you can see the spectacular movement of the Milky Way amid a breathtakingly beautiful horizon and bed of stars. Notice the opalescent green light begins to dance at the distance at 10-second mark.
This rare occurrence happens when the sun's charged particles enter Earth's atmosphere and collide with gaseous particles.
