It's barely August, and we're already talking about Thanksgiving.

Specifically, someone is talking about canceling it. During an appearance on CNN on Monday, Francesca Hong, a Democratic candidate for governor in Wisconsin, was asked if she still stood by a now-deleted tweet calling for the end of Turkey Day.
Why Did Francesca Hong Want Thanksgiving Canceled?
Hong tweeted her call to cancel the beloved holiday during the pandemic. She wrote she believed that the country "should have done this in 1621."
"If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indegenous [sic] folx [sic] and women so be it," she wrote.
But the former restaurant worker doesn't just have a problem with Thanksgiving. She has also ranted against other Hallmark-sponsored holidays, the Fourth of July, and even Christmas.
"As if we weren't invisible enough to those who don't recognize the emotional & physical labor of service work, the worst of humanity comes out from folks 'celebrating' on another day capitalism tells you how to show love," she wrote regarding Valentine's Day in 2022.
Does Hong Stand By Her Call to Chop Turkey Day?
Kaitlan Collins asked Hong about her now-deleted tweet about Thanksgiving. And after hearing her response, we're not entirely sure she answered the CNN anchor's question.
"I'm a chef, and one of the first meals that I made that was for the community when I was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal," Hong began.
"I always think my hospitality background and owning a restaurant for 7-8 years, that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is always a good thing," she added.
"But Thanksgiving is also a time that's incredibly painful for many people in our communities. So I think there I wanted to make sure people understood there are multiple views, but views can evolve.
"And the position I'm running for right now — and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that's able to bring more people to the table."
The interview then came to an end, but the future of Thanksgiving in Wisconsin remains in limbo. Hopefully, no one will remind Hong that Labor Day is coming up.
