According to the

Fairbanks Police Department, the shooting was reported at around 9:52 a.m. on Friday, April 11. Police arrived at an apartment located in the 1100 block of 27th Avenue and found Joseph Casas with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

As per the New York Post, a doctor told police, "It appeared that Casas had a back-to-front penetration gunshot wound. It appeared Casas had been executed."

Police began searching for Adayus Robertson "based on previous law enforcement at the residence." Robertson is an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Wainwright with the 11th Airborne Division. He, however, was wearing an ankle monitor in connection with two cases where he was charged with assault and escape, as per Centre Daily Times.

Arrested And Charged

GPS data obtained by the Fairbanks Police Department revealed that Robertson had been at the scene at the time of the shooting, only to flee the scene moments later. He was then arrested at the Big Dipper Icy Arena. As per police, he was in possession of a handgun magazine, with the alleged murder weapon found inside a dumpster near the scene.

According to the Tribune News Service, witnesses stated that both Robertson and Casas were in the same room when they heard the shot. A detective interviewing Robertson stated that he was "bouncing around and saying a lot of crazy stuff." Roberston, however, then asked for an attorney, not revealing any further details of what happened on April 11.

Adayus Robertson was charged with first-degree murder and evidence tampering. On Sunday, April 13, his bail was set at $2.5 million by a judge. As previously stated, he faces two other charges previously filed against him.

Regarding the assault charge, Robertson is accused of pistol-whipping a woman in January 2025. The escape charge was filed when he allegedly left house arrest on base. This violated the conditions of his release in connection with the assault charge. However, on April 1, a judge allowed Robertson to leave base.
