In 2014, on their first day of infantry basic training for officers, First Lieutenant Andrew Yacovone and First Lieutenant Justin Wright met. During the exhausting process of training, Yacovone sought relief in one of his favorite hobbies — playing music. It was that love that bonded him with Wright at a trying time in both of their lives.
“I called out to the crowd and asked if anyone played guitar,” Yacovone explained to ABC News. “Lo and behold, Justin was standing right next to me and he was like, ‘Heck yeah, I play guitar!'” The two spent the entire night playing music together.
The all-night session led to the two joining forces and releasing music as duo Interstate 10, including a YouTube video, “Hometown Hero,” recorded in Afghanistan, and a full-length EP. Following the successes of their previous projects, Yacovone and Wright have released “I’m Gonna Miss You,” in honor of military families and fallen soldiers.
Yacovone started writing “I’m Gonna Miss You” in 2013, prior to meeting Wright and forming a musical pair, but it wasn’t until they lost some of their own unit that the song was able to be completed. Working on the project while forty miles apart at different bases, Interstate 10 used Skype and other means to finish the song, even shooting some of the video in Afghanistan.
Watch the video above, and do as Yacovone and Wright wish this holiday — enjoy yourselves while celebrating the individuals who serve, have served, and made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.
