Who Is Marcus Gilbert?
Gilbert was born in Bristol, England, on July 29, 1958. He then graduated from the Mountview Theatre School in London in 1981.
The actor soon appeared in numerous British television shows and movies, including the 1984 Sherlock Holmes adaptation The Masks Of Death and the 1987 made-for-TV period piece A Hazard Of Hearts.
It was in 1988 when Gilbert had his big break. He played Tomask, the Soviet pilot in Rambo III. In this role, the villain meets his demise while chasing the titular hero, played by Sylvester Stallone, in a helicopter.
Horror film fans will recognize Gilbert as Lord Arthur from the 1992 cult classic, Army of Darkness. The medieval noble throws the film's hero, Ash, into a pit to test his worthiness. After proving himself, Arthur forms an alliance with the protagonist as they battle the titular legion.
Gilbert was also known for his voice work. Big Finish Productions, a company specializing in audiobook recordings and plays, shared its condolences.
"We were very sorry to learn of the death of actor Marcus Gilbert, with whom we worked recently," the company wrote. "Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time. RIP."
Gilbert Was Also Loved by Fans of 'Doctor Who'
In 1989, Gilbert played George, a UNIT soldier in the Doctor Who serial "Battlefield", which was part of the show's final classic season run. In the show, he investigates cosmic events on Earth linked to a medieval-themed alien conflict.
Gilbert had two children, Maxi and Aaliya, with Homaa Khan-Gilbert, who died in 2020 from pancreatic cancer. After her death, Gilbert began dating his former co-star Lysette Anthony, with whom he starred in the 1990 film A Ghost In Monte Carlo.
