Ana Navarro of 'The View' Blasts Online "Rejoicing" Over the Death of Senator Lindsey Graham

Many have decried the blatant lack of civility in our nation's political discourse these days. Sometimes it gets brutal and brazen. As Ana Navarro of The View pointed out on Monday's show, it even extends to people reportedly expressing cruel elation online over the death of GOP Senator Lindsey Graham.

He was 71 when he died suddenly on Saturday, July 11. His preliminary cause of death was reportedly an aortic dissection. Graham had marked his birthday just two days earlier. He was among the most powerful and respected voices in the Senate.

In fact, Navarro took great offense at the glee that some are allegedly expressing after his death. Any decent person hopefully would be appalled, whatever their political leanings are.

"It's Really Lacking Empathy"

Additionally, Navarro openly railed at those who are apparently glad about the South Carolina senator's passing. "First thing I wanna say is I saw a lot of posts online this week kind of celebrating his death and rejoicing. And listen, I know that [Donald] Trump does that. He did it with [former FBI Director] Bob Mueller. [Trump] did it with [Arizona Senator] John McCain. He did it with [actor and director] Rob Reiner, but it's inhumane and it's really lacking empathy."

Navarro Underscored the Pain This Causes Someone's Loved Ones

The political pundit mentioned the anguish that callous, uncaring words cause. They bring more agony to those who are already mourning.  Ana Navarro candidly shared her opinion. "The dead person's dead and can't hear you and can't read your post, but his family, his sister who he adopted when she was 13 because both their parents died, is alive and is hearing it. And so I think that for the benefit for humanity, for having normal decency towards the family of the dead, that just has to stop. The fact that Donald Trump is indecent doesn't mean the rest of us have to do it."

She Rued Graham's Apparent Solidarity With Donald Trump

On The View, Ana Navarro said she was "disappointed" that Lindsey Graham seemed to forge close ties to Donald Trump. The senator was formerly one of the president's vocal detractors. Then he seemed to do a total 180 about Trump. She feels that Graham "became just a completely different person" following the death of his friend and fellow senator John McCain in 2018.

Navarro observed, "I get it that people are brokenhearted. I'm brokenhearted. I get it that people were disappointed in him. I'm disappointed in him."

Sunny Hostin Called Graham a "Political Chameleon"

In her comments during the discussion, View panelist Sunny Hostin said that Graham allegedly effusively praised Donald Trump last month for being "not far behind God." She said, "When you're talking about a complicated legacy and someone who may have betrayed his country for power, that seems to be, in my view, what his legacy became."

Whoopi Goldberg Felt That He Was "Complicated"

Goldberg took a largely kindly and merciful stance toward Graham. She said of him, "He lived with himself, and him and God will figure out whatever went on, okay, but at this point in time he's gone. God rest his soul. God rest his soul. I don't wish any bad on anybody, even the ones you know I really should! But I don't."
