America's Got Talent is back for season 21, and the premiere show didn't disappoint. The show returned to NBC viewers' screens on Tuesday, June 2, where judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B were back at their judges' table, with Terry Crews operating in his usual role as the host.

In typical America's Got Talent fashion, viewers were treated to humorous acts and some genuine early contenders. In fact, there were three golden buzzers given out throughout the opening show.
The first of the three golden buzzer acts was 14-year-old singer Lai Noelle. Hailing from Texas, the teenager wowed the judges and the audience with their version of Sienna Spiro's 2025 song "Die on This Hill." As you would expect from a golden buzzer, Noelle received a standing ovation from everyone in the room.
"You know what I think? Words aren't necessary," Cowell said before hitting the golden buzzer, via PEOPLE. "You have such a gift. This is why we do this."
The second golden buzzer act was Acro Crew. The team of young acrobats and dogs wowed everyone with an energetic and well-organized routine.
"I've never seen anything like that in my whole life," Crews said after the performance.
The Third Golden Buzzer Came From an Emotional Performance
While the first two acts earned a golden buzzer from pure talent, the third also came with a heartwarming story. After all, what's America's Got Talent without the underdog?
The contestant, named Luke Taleno, revealed that he began his musical journey following an acute lymphoblastic leukemia diagnosis as a teenager. He revealed that during his treatment, he met rapper Pitbull via the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In a move that's always somewhat of a risk, Taleno opted to perform an original rap, earning some criticism from Mel B, who noted his performance was "not the best" of the night. However, his perseverance, backstory, and a clear sign of talent led Mandell to hit the golden buzzer for what was the third time of the night.
If this is what the opening night of the show had to offer, we should have high hopes for season 21. What's exciting is that we may not have even met the eventual winner yet. That's why America's Got Talent continues to be one of the best shows on television.
