Laws, 62, was shot and killed on May 25 in the Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, by his stepson.
Alex Miller announced the devastating news to his Instagram audience. Alongside numerous pictures of Mark Laws, Miller wrote a heartbreaking tribute. Miller wrote, "My heart is truly broken at the passing of my drummer Mark Laws."
"My grandad once told me that you'll have lots of friends in your life, but finding a [true] friend is something that is rare and special. My grandad was a true friend, and so was Mark Laws."
"His loss to me is devastating. Please pray for his family for me," he finished the short and sweet statement.
Per The Tennessean, Laws had been a drummer for the American Idol star for five years. To lose someone after working closely with them for 5 years is devastating. Miller rose to prominence after his stint on the 2021 season of American Idol. Although he didn't win, he impressed fans of the show.
The announcement comes a few days after the murder. The comments are full of fans and friends supporting Miller through this very trying time.
Killer Injured Himself During The Shooting
Claiborne County Sheriff Bob Brooks told WRIL-FM about the murder.
Maxwell Madon lived with his grandparents in their Old Pearman Road home. On Sunday, the 25-year-old got into an argument with his grandparents about cleaning his room. The argument escalated to a combative level when he physically assaulted his granddad.
His grandmother called Mark Laws, Madon's stepdad, to deal with him.
When Laws arrived at the home, they began arguing, which led to Madon fatally shooting Laws. Madon also shot through his own hand, leading to a trip to the hospital.
Once he has been treated at the hospital, he will be taken to the Claiborne County Jail. So far, authorities have charged him with homicide, although he may face more. His bond is currently unknown.
I hope everyone Mark Laws knew has the strength to get through this difficult time.
