Katy Perry's recently released 1432 album hasn't been met with much acclaim, and a previous American Idol contestant has slammed it.

Steven James appeared on season 17 of American Idol but was ultimately eliminated by Katy Perry, who was a long-running judge of the series. Katy Perry started as a judge in 2018, although stepped back last year to be replaced by Carrie Underwood.
She announced that her departure from the show would give her more time for her music, which apparently sorely needs more attention.
In December last year, Katy Perry released 1432, a deluxe version of 143. This album came out with four new tracks, one being "OK," which funnily enough was a perfectly average track. And Steve James took to TikTok to share his thoughts.
He posted a video with "OK" playing, writing, "This can't be the same person who eliminated me on American Idol 5 years ago."
He grimaced as the song played, letting the occasional mocking smile loose. Most seem to agree with his stance, that someone of Katy Perry's level shouldn't be producing music that sounds beyond basic.
Internet Agrees With Steven James Over Katy Perry's New Song
Many others commented under Steve James' TikTok, adding more insults to the pile.
"It sounds like a free song that comes with windows xp," one joked.
"Sounds like a theme song of a pbs kids show," another adds.
"And it required multiple writers," reminds one user.
"This song will do numbers on the target playlist," comments someone else.
"Sounds like a Disney Channel theme song ????," one more laughs.
Of course, many have Katy Perry's back, and come to her defence against Steve James.
"Yes, she is and that song is really goood," one defends.
"No way we're hating on katy perry as if she didn't drop the best album ever when we were kids," another brings up. And yes, Katy Perry dropped some legendary songs back in the day, but we're not talking about them. We're talking about "OK," which is only barely okay.
"I just listened your music and definitely I pick Katy ??," says another who did their research.
"OK" isn't one of Katy Perry's best hits, but that doesn't mean she's a bad singer or songwriter. Let's hope her future releases are a little more than 'okay,' however.
