Idol Contestant's Daughters Read Scathing Statements During Sentencing
On Monday (October 5), Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without parole for committing the killing. Caleb and Ashley shared two daughters. 10-year-old Ava and 12-year-old Alyssa. Neither of his daughters seems to have any sympathy for him as he prepares to begin his sentence.
In a letter read by Ava's uncle and Flynn's brother-in-law, Matthew Keyt, she called her late mother the "perfect person" and questioned the motive behind her father's actions.
"Mommy was the perfect person, the absolutely perfect person. What did she ever do to make you hate her so much? ... She was my best friend, and then you chose to kill the only mother I ever had," she said in the letter (via the New York Post).
Prosecutors believed that Flynn murdered his 37-year-old wife in a crime of passion. Because he had been having an affair with a woman named Aleigha Botner. An intern at the church where he served as music pastor for several years. In the letter, Ava also scolds him over the affair.
"How could you cheat on her and go to that awful girl Aleigha?" Ava asked. I never liked her."
Alyssa also tore into the convicted killer at his sentencing. She called out her father for being selfish. And said it was "sad" that he could not "love anyone but [himself]."
"You have already caused so much pain to your family and the world. The least you could do is tell everyone that you did it," she wrote in a statement read in court by their grandmother.
She also said that she did not plan on coming to visit him while he is in prison.
Even after the conviction, Flynn still has not admitted to his role in the killing.
