American Airlines Passenger Erupts During Removal From Miami Flight
Another traveler on board described the woman as appearing "drunk," as she appeared to slur her words during the confrontation.
In the video, the passenger loudly challenges the crew's decision to remove her.
"I played a video for 30 f—king seconds at 50% sound, and that's the f—king reason you're kicking me off?," she said.
Continuing her rant, the woman claimed she had stopped playing the video after receiving a second warning, while urging crew members to call the police.
"What the actual f-k?," she added. ""Listen. Is this not a free-speech America or are we being a-holes to literally everybody?"
She also insisted she was "keeping the peace" and questioned one of the responding officers, asking, "Can I not express my feelings?"
The passenger then turned toward fellow travelers. They were recording the incident. The passenger then gathered her belongings before being escorted off the plane.
As she exited, the cabin broke into applause, with one passenger shouting, "get the f-ck outta here."
Airlines Tighten Rules on Device Audio Following Incident
The woman also sarcastically applauded as she walked down the aisle, seemingly responding to the reaction from other passengers.
Reports suggest the confrontation began even before the plane, which was scheduled to fly to Tampa, had left the gate.
The video was first published on February 26 and quickly spread across social media.
In the aftermath, airlines have updated policies surrounding audio played on personal devices.
According to CBS News, United Airlines recently revised its contract of carriage, which outlines the airline's rules and policies.
"United amended its so-called contract of carriage, which outlines the carrier's rules and policies, to require that all passengers wear headphones when listening to a device," CBS News' Megan Cerullo wrote.
"The airline also said it reserves the right to remove anyone who doesn't comply with the new rules and potentially ban them from flying on United in the future."
Cerullo also noted that United Airlines states on its website that customers can be provided with a free pair of earbuds if needed.
