Amazon Driver Dies After Neighbor Requests Wellness Check
Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene after receiving a non-emergency call regarding suspicious activity involving the delivery van.
A neighbor reportedly contacted authorities after noticing that the vehicle had remained stationary outside a home for an unusually long period of time, believed to be around four hours.
"I'm just looking to report a wellness check, I guess? Or to report an abandoned vehicle," the neighbor said.
Deputies arrived alongside Lake County Fire Rescue and emergency medical personnel before discovering the woman unresponsive inside the van.
First responders removed her from the vehicle and rushed her to the hospital, where she later died.
Authorities have not publicly announced a cause of death as investigators continue working to establish what happened.
Witness Recalls Emergency Response at Scene
Neighbor Patrick Miranda recalled watching an officer remove the driver from the vehicle. He described concerns surrounding the conditions inside the van.
"The male officer that pulled her out began coughing for some reason," Miranda said. "Once they were worried about fumes inside the vehicle they pulled her further away from the vehicle and then fire utilized a hose to rinse down the person."
Authorities have not confirmed whether fumes or another substance played any role in the woman's death.
Officials have also released few details about her condition when deputies arrived beyond describing her as "unresponsive".
Amazon acknowledged the driver's death in a statement provided to local outlet WESH 2.
"We're deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the driver's loved ones during this difficult time," a statement read. "We're cooperating fully with local authorities in their investigation."
The Lake County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the case remains under active investigation.
As a result, authorities have released limited information while investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the driver's death.
