Alison Krauss & Union Station Announces First Album In More Than A Decade

Alison Krauss & Union Station have a new album coming out. The award-winning group announces the release of Arcadia, a ten-song collection that will be out on March 28. Krauss reveals that the entire project, the group's first since Paper Airplanes came out in 2011, was inspired by one song.

"Usually, I find something that's a first song, and then things fall into place," says Alison Krauss. "That song was 'Looks Like The End Of The Road.' Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive - and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it."

When announcing the new album, Krauss also teased the song that inspired the entire record.

Of Arcadia, Krauss says the record is poignant storytelling, in a bold and brave way.

"The stories of the past are told in this music. It's that whole idea of 'in the good old days when times were bad.' There's so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive. Someone asked me, 'How do you sing these tragic tunes?' I have to. It's a calling. I feel privileged to be a messenger of somebody else's story. And I want to hear what happened."

Alison Krauss & Union Station might not have released a record in 14 years, but Krauss has been busy making music on her own. In 2021, Krauss released Raise the Roof, her second album with Robert Plant.

"It didn't feel like a moment too soon," Krauss tells Louder Sound on workign with Plant. "You want something to be inspired and not forced or contrived. This just very easily fell into place. It was the right time."

Krauss last released her own studio album, Windy City, in 2017.

In addition to releasing a new album, Alison Krauss & Union Station are also heading out on a 75-date North American tour. The Arcadia Tour begins with two back-to-back shows on April 17 and 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Arcadia is being released on Down the Road Records. Pre-order the album and find tour dates at AlisonKrauss.com.
