Alec Baldwin is considering retirement. The long-time actor is ready to start a new chapter of his life following the "very painful" years that have followed his shooting incident on the set of Rust in 2021, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin made the revelation during a recent appearance on the Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast.

"I wound up staying home a lot, I was home with my kids for three and a half years," Baldwin said. "I hardly worked at all. And that's just changing now, I'm going to go off and do a bunch of things, but I was home and I got used to it, and I don't want to leave my house anymore. I don't, I don't want to work anymore. I don't, I really don't, I want to retire and stay home with my kids."
Following the shooting incident, Baldwin was subject to a criminal investigation. He was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023. However, those charges were dropped a few months later. Unfortunately for Baldwin, the same charges were brought against him in 2024.
Eventually, those charges were dismissed with prejudice following a trial.
Alec Baldwin Is Happy Spending Time With Family Now
Baldwin, 68, is fortunate to have a sizeable family. He has seven children with his wife, Hilaria and a daughter from his previous marriage to Kim Basinger.
During his appearance on the Hollywood Reporter's podcast, Alec recalled a recent interaction with his youngest son, highlighting how he's embracing a normal life away from all the glitz and glamor of being a celebrity.
"My kids are all born in Manhattan, same hospital, same doctor," Baldwin said. "And my son Romeo was there and we're picking clothes, they're picking out ski jackets back in November. And I go, 'Get that one, get that color. I like that one. Don't just get the black, get that one.' And he looks at me and goes, 'What do you know? You're from Long Island.'..And that's my life now, day after day after day after day."
Baldwin has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career. If he feels now is the right time to retire and be present with his children, then that's what he should do. After all, life is about happiness, no matter where or how you find it.
