Alec Baldwin is finally breaking his silence about the shooting tragedy that he was involved in back in 2021

Baldwin faced criminal charges after a tragedy on the set of Rust in October 2021. The former Saturday Night Live star fired a gun on the set of the film. The fatal shot killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured film director Joel Souza.
Fortunately for the actor, he was acquitted of those charges in July 2024. And now he is speaking out about the debacle in a new documentary, The Trial of Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin Breaks Silence on 'Rust' Shooting
In the trailer, which was released on Friday (September 11), Baldwin says he was shocked to learn about Hutchins' passing.
"When they told me she died, I was in shock," Baldwin says in the trailer (via Page Six). "I was in disbelief."
In another portion of the trailer, Baldwin's wife Hilaria talks about the impact that the incident has had on their family.
"The paparazzi are already coming," she says to her husband. "You need to take the kids out of town."
He also talks about the guilt and regret he feels in the aftermath of Hutchins' death.
"If you said to me, 'Hike up Mount Everest, and she'll come back,' I'd be packed and ready to go," he said."Whatever I could do. But there's nothing you could do."
The new documentary, captured by Oscar-nominated director Rory Kennedy, daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, closely follows Baldwin. It features exclusive access to the actor during the trial. The film also spotlights the role the public perception plays in the legal process.
"We felt this was an important story for our times, a vital story about the state of our judicial system," Kennedy said when Abramorama's acquisition of the film was announced (via The Hollywood Reporter). "Alec is an enduring and undeniably significant figure in Hollywood, and the trial surrounding Rust raised questions well beyond the events that transpired on set. Alongside Abramorama, we are eager to bring this documentary to theater audiences so that the broader public can grapple with the complex questions at the heart of the film."
The film is set to hit theaters on October 1
