September 11, 2001, was a day that will always live on in our collective memory. People throughout the nation and the world watched in shock and horror as four commercial jet liners were deliberately slammed into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, along with one that crashed in rural Pennsylvania. Scores of innocent lives were lost that day and our sense of safety was badly shaken. Country music superstar Alan Jackson wanted to write a song that captured the somber, sorrowful mood of the nation in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy.
